Amazon Dropshipping Policy 2026: What's Actually Allowed
TL;DR
- Amazon allows dropshipping IF you are the seller of record and products ship in your branding
- Dropshipping from Amazon to sell elsewhere (arbitrage) violates their terms
- The safest model: FBA with wholesale suppliers or private label products
Amazon's dropshipping policy is one of the most misunderstood rules in ecommerce. The policy allows certain types of dropshipping and prohibits others. Getting this wrong means account suspension.

Get Free AccessWhat Amazon Allows
Amazon explicitly permits dropshipping where:
- You are the seller of record for the product
- Products ship in your branding or neutral packaging (NOT the supplier's branded packaging)
- All invoices, receipts, and packing slips identify you as the seller
- You are responsible for accepting and processing returns
This means you can use a wholesale supplier or manufacturer to ship directly to your Amazon customers, as long as you control the seller identity and the customer never sees your supplier's branding.
What Amazon Prohibits
Amazon explicitly prohibits:
- Purchasing products from another online retailer and having them ship directly to customers (retail arbitrage dropshipping)
- Products that arrive with packing slips, invoices, or packaging identifying a different retailer
- Ordering from AliExpress/Walmart/Target/etc. and having those packages shipped to Amazon customers
The AliExpress Dropshipping Problem
The classic dropshipping model (order from AliExpress, ship to Amazon customer) directly violates Amazon's policy because packages arrive in AliExpress packaging with AliExpress invoices. Amazon will suspend accounts that receive buyer complaints about this.
The Compliant Models
FBA with Wholesale Suppliers
Buy products in bulk from wholesale suppliers, ship to Amazon FBA warehouses, and Amazon handles fulfillment. Not pure dropshipping (you hold inventory at Amazon) but the most scalable compliant model.
3PL Dropshipping
Use a third-party logistics company as your fulfillment center. Source from suppliers, have them ship to your 3PL, and your 3PL ships to Amazon customers in your branding. Fully compliant and allows dropshipping economics at scale.
Private Label via Amazon Seller
Source products from Alibaba manufacturers with your branding, sell on Amazon under your brand. This is the highest-margin model and the one Amazon rewards with Buy Box preference.
Real Risk: Account Suspension
Amazon enforces this policy primarily through buyer complaints. If customers receive packages from AliExpress or other retailers and complain to Amazon, you'll receive a policy violation warning. Multiple violations lead to account suspension. The account itself is valuable - losing a mature Amazon seller account with reviews and ranking history is a significant business loss.
